Pilates & Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a special time and you will want to look after yourself and of course take care of your unborn or newborn child. Pilates exercises can help towards an easier pregnancy, delivery and recovery. With Pilates, we can help prepare you for the changes that your body will go through.
All new and existing clients who are pregnant must complete a Pregnancy Enrolment Form. Please click here to complete and submit the form online. Alternatively, please click here to print out and complete a pdf version of the form.
Pilates is a gentle low impact form of exercise and is considered to be one of the best forms of exercise during pregnancy.
The demands on the body change throughout each trimester of your pregnancy. Our specific pre-natal programme of exercises are adapted for either early or late pregnancy and will help to create a supported posture and prevent pregnancy related backache. Each exercise can also help prepare the body and mind for labour as well as the forthcoming demands of motherhood.
You will also learn about optimal foetal positioning, useful breathing techniques and rest and release exercises to help relax you and ease the tension of labour. In some cases, Pilates may even shorten the second (pushing) phase of labour.
By following our programme, you will learn more about your body so that you can make the right choices for yourself in supporting the birth of your choice. We will also work in conjunction with and on the recommendations of your Midwife and Doctor.
Our pre-natal programme for new clients starts at 12 weeks.
Pre-natal sessions take place at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Whiteley every Thursday at 7:00pm. Sessions run as a 4 week course costing £34 (payable in advance). To complete the online Pregnancy Enrolment Form, please click here. Alternatively, please click here to print off and complete a pdf version of the Pregnancy Enrolment Form as this will need to be completed and returned before you can join the course.
Life with a new baby is both challenging and rewarding. Take time out to re-energise and re-connect with yourself in our post-natal Pilates program. The focus during this phase of your experience of motherhood is to help you regain your pre-pregnancy shape and strengthen the muscles that have been stretched, whether you have had a normal delivery or caesarean section. The emphasis is on stronger spinal and abdominal muscles, restoring the pelvic floor and working to re-address any muscle imbalances and improve posture.
Our post-natal programme can start as early as after your 6 week check providing you have been medically cleared to commence Pilates exercise.
